Fantastic Father’s Day Ideas in Hampshire

Father’s Day is approaching on the 19th June and we’ve got some great Father’s Day ideas right here in Hampshire!

  • The British Truck Championship and support races roll in to Thruxton Race Circuit from Saturday 11 – Sun 12 June. Spectacular racing is guaranteed. The race meeting features rounds of the British Truck Racing Championship and many support races including Pick Up Trucks. There will also be a huge show truck display on both days. A great family day out at the UK’s fastest race circuit.
  • Fathers Day at the Brickworks. A rugged museum that is ideal for a Fathers Day visit. Why not make your Dad a brick to celebrate? The Brickworks will be open for visiting from 11.00am – 4.00pm. Cafe open for light refreshments.
  • Fathers – bring your family to Butser Ancient Farm in Hampshire on June 19th to enjoy a themed Weapons and Warriors day.  Join the Roman Legion and see if you have what it takes to endure the armour, conquer the weaponry, triumph over the language and make mincemeat of the food of nearly 2000 years ago!   Opening times are 10-5pm, costs are £8 for adults, £4 children and under fives go free!  Family entry is £20.  You could even download the kids go free voucher from the Hampshire Top Attractions website for a real bargain!  Picnics and dogs also most welcome!

  • If your Father loves the great outdoors then enjoy Father’s day by foot or push bike! Basing House is located near the river Loddon and has very picturesque heritage trails close to the attraction. At the attraction you can unearth the amazing stories of Basing House, the nationally important historical ruins of the largest private house in Tudor England, which suffered at the hands of Oliver Cromwell during the English Civil War. Step inside the battle-scarred Tudor Great Barn, dating from 1535 and listen to the light and sounds show about it’s history.

  • Have a Go Archery at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens. Sunday 19 June, 10am – 5pm. We are excited to welcome back Romsey Archers for this fun day of archery in the Gardens. Treat your dad and bring the whole family to ‘Have a Go’ at archery. For just £2, any age from young to old can take part. Be the next Robin Hood or Disney’s Brave!   • Fathers Day – Hollycombe Bus Rally – If your father or grand-father are of a certain vintage, they may very well enjoy the special event taking place at Hollycombe on Sunday 19 June, when all manner of vintage buses will be lining up at the steam attraction near Liphook. But whilst the buses may be old, they will have nothing on Hollycome’s fairgound rides, many of which date back to Victorian and Edwardian times, including the world’s first white knuckle ride, the Razzle Dazzle, and the world’s first mechanically operated fairground ride, Mr Field’s Steam Circus. Pay once, and return again free of charge for a whole year! Now that’s worth taking father along for!
  • Father’s Day Sleepover at Gilbert White’s House. 18th June 2016 6pm-8:30am, £15. Bring your dad along to an exciting evening of activities at The Gilbert White Field Studies Centre. £15 per child with accompanying adult free.   • The National Trust invites all Dads to re-live their childhood this Father’s Day by participating in their famous ’50 things to do before you’re 11¾’challenge.
  • Is your Dad a gin lover? Hampshire is home to the Bombay Sapphire Gin Distillery which offers guided tours for gin lovers to see just how their favourite tipple is distilled. A number of packages are available including self-guided tours and cocktail making classes. Book a tour for the 19th or purchase as a gift for a later date.

While Father’s Day might be an excuse for your son or daughter to ransack the kitchen in aid of creating ‘breakfast in bed’ for Daddy, parenting Victorian style meant children had a little less free rein. But in the royal household of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at Osborne, fatherhood was still a considerable responsibility, and Albert approached it with characteristic vigour. “Ich habe einen Plan, I have a plan”, was his perennial mantra.
